India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) has placed a multi-million Euro order for large gear units and gear components for vertical mills with the Siemens Drive Technologies Division.
A leading manufacturer of mechanical and electrical components for power plant and energy technology, BHEL will deploy Siemens’ Flender gear units at various coal-fired power plants. The gear units will be deployed in vertical mills with an output of 800 kW and 1000 kW, which are used for coal grinding in the power plants.
The rugged design of Siemens’ powerful and reliable drives will suit the harsh ambient conditions prevalent in power plants, permitting smooth operation.
Siemens’ Flender gear units feature a combination of a bevel gear stage with a planetary stage. Specially designed for use in coal grinding to achieve a high power density, the gear unit also transfers forces from the grinding operations to the foundation via the gear casing. The power plant will benefit from the smooth operation as well as very fine coal grinding, which will ensure efficient combustion.
Dr Bernhard Hoffmann, Head of the Mechanical Drives Segment in the Siemens Industry Sector describes the order as a convincing vote of confidence from BHEL in the reliability of Flender gear units.
