The new V18V Food & Beverage series of photoelectric switches offers sensitivity adjustment, optimised materials, better sensing distances, expanded temperature ranges and resistance certificates from ECOLAB, JohnsonDiversey and the FDA.
The V18V Food & Beverage series of photoelectric switches, available from Sick , were specifically developed to solve high end applications such as those found in handling, filling and packaging machinery in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
The technological highlight of the V18V Food & Beverage series of photoelectric switches is the patented ‘touchteach’ sensitivity adjustment and this feature emphasizes the extreme environment sensor concept.
The V18V Food & Beverage series of photoelectric switches still provides adjustable sensitivity on the sensor but there is no traditional mechanical operating element, such as rotary potentiometer or a teach button.
The ‘touchteach’ system does away the sensitivity adjustment seal where moisture can enter the device. The ‘touchteach’ feature allows the teach operation to occur through the solid stainless steel housing of the device.
The LED indicators are situated behind the clear plastic connector housing and this eliminates another potential point for moisture to enter the sensor.
The careful selection of materials, the rugged housing design and extended temperature ratings of V18V Food & Beverage series of photoelectric switches are critical factors for its good performance.
The cleaning friendly IP68 and IP69K sensor housing is constructed of V4A 316L stainless steel and highly resistant plastic which is certified by the FDA. The connection contacts are gold-plated and this reduces the risk of corrosion.
Resistance against both acidic and alkaline detergents and disinfectants has been certified by ECOLAB and JohnsonDiversey in independent tests.
The housing is potted, reducing the air pockets inside the sensor to prevent moisture ingress during temperature fluctuations.
Finally, the V18V Food & Beverage series of photoelectric switches offers an expanded temperature range between -20°C and 85°C in normal operation and a higher rating of 100°C for up to 15 minutes, which is suitable where high temperature cleaning processes are used.
The V18V Food & Beverage series of photoelectric switches is a sensor family consisting of through-beam photoelectric switches with a range of 25m, photoelectric reflex switches with a range of 5m and energetic photoelectric proximity switches with scanning distances of 100mm, 400mm and 800mm.
This performance is important wherever long ranges or high functional reserves are required for trouble-free, continuous operation.
