DFS60 series incremental encoders from Sick

DFS60 series incremental encoder

The high-resolution incremental encoders of the DFS60 series from SICK STEGMANN cover every desired type of mounting.

The final positioners are now available in a total of 18 mechanical designs for all common industrial mounting situations.

Certainly one reason why the encoder has been awarded the ”Product of the year” title by the magazine PLANT ENGINEERING in the USA.

The incremental encoders of the DFS60 series are rotative final positioners used in machine and plant construction.

All common mounting situations are covered with one clamping flange and one servo-flange each for solid shafts, as well as slip-on and push-through hollow shafts with five metric and three non-metric diameters each.

Fit for harsh environmental conditions
The DFS60 incremental hollow shaft encoder can be used with line numbers of up to 65,536 and displays its strengths, in particular, in the harsh conditions of machine and plant construction.

The DFS60 achieves extreme ruggedness combined with maximum precision by means of its housing with an enclosure rating of IP 65, and due to the use of a code disk made of nickel.

The nickel disk is considerably more sturdy than glass encoder disks with the same resolution and is at least as durable as plastic code disks, but offers much better resolution and temperature resistance: the operating temperature of the highly precise DFS60 thus ranges from -20°C to +100°C.

Very easy mounting
The encoder’s universal cable outlet – radially and axially alignable – reduces the number of variants and simplifies installation when space is limited.

Also mounting-friendly: the clamping ring with just one Torx screw for fixing the DFS60. Customers can program the DFS60 with any line number in the range from 1 to 65,536, a zero pulse width of 90° to 270°, and select the voltage level of the TTL or HTL interfaces.

No eccentricity affects, no leakage current
The distance between the DFS60’s two shaft bearings has been increased (while retaining the 60 mm housing common on the market) in such a way that a hitherto impossible vibration-free and optimum true running is now achieved – even at maximum operating rotational speeds.

The speed values detected are consequently unaffected by mechanical eccentricity or tolerance factors, unlike other encoders – where these effects cause swings in the measurement value curves.

A further improvement involves the insulation between the motor shaft and the encoder. This prevents leakage currents from the motor shaft reaching the encoder bearing assembly and causing damage.
