Function/ApplicationsRefrigerated compressed air dryers are used to improve the productivity of compressed air by lowering the dew point to 3°C. This reduces the moisture content of the compressed air to a level that is generally acceptable in many manufacturing plants.
However, there are many applications that require compressed air to be much dryer than that delivered by a refrigerated compressed air dryer. For these applications Hankison have released the point of use HMM Modular membrane compressed air dryers.
Membrane compressed air dryers use a bundle of tiny tubular fibres that fast gases like water vapour permeate through the tube wall to be swept away to the ambient. Through the process of selective permeation water vapour is removed while leaving the gas composition intact.
Compressed air enters the centre of the membrane dryer tubes. Water vapour diffuses through the membrane wall faster than other gases. A small portion of very dry compressed air is swept back across the outside of the membrane walls to evacuate the H2O vapour to atmosphere. Dry compressed air exits the unit ready for process applications.
The membrane dryer has no moving parts and requires no maintenance. It is important that high quality, high efficiency pre-filtration is used to eliminate any liquid water and oil.
