Serpent & Dove  introduces a new fencing system in Australia for the protection of rail engineering and maintenance workers.

Designed by RSS in the Netherlands, the award-winning railway safety system uses magnets to attach the safety barrier directly to the web of the rail. Quick to set up, the fencing system has only two components and is safe, simple and lightweight, with no tools needed for assembly.

The magnetic rail safety fence offers a fast build time with adjustable stanchions clamping magnetically to the web of the rail and horizontal tubes clipped into the stanchions to provide a very visible and strong barrier fence.

The entire system can be supplied in easily transportable packs for fast and simple deployment at the track maintenance site.

Tests undertaken in the UK by Network Rail with a gang of five operators showed that it was possible to erect 100 metres of the safety barrier in 15 minutes, while dismantling took 11 minutes. There is no need to remove or reinstate ballast during installation. Network Rail has approved the system for the UK rail infrastructure.

Employed extensively across Europe, the railway safety system received the Rail-Tech Europe innovation award in 2011.

The railway safety system is now available in Australia from Serpent & Dove – Applied Magnetics Pty Ltd.
