Custom models of these flow sensors are available that have been designed to meet the demanding requirements of medical ventilators. These units feature two sensing elements that offer excellent resolution and accuracy over the complete measuring range.
One sensor chip in these devices is located in the middle of the main stream for the measurement of very small flows around the zero flow point. A second chip is arranged in a bypass configuration and measures higher flows up to full scale.
A microcontroller controls digital signal processing, as well as allowing for continual switching between the two sensing elements.
