Leading manufacturer of high performance metal cutting tools, Seco Tools Australia
introduces a new double-start gear hob featuring a unique design based on extensive research and development.
Offering substantial productivity gains to manufacturers producing gears for the power transmission or other industry segments, Seco’s double-start gear hobs are created specifically to take advantage of the increased power and speed of modern CNC gear cutting machines.
Originally designed by Seco Italy to increase the effectiveness of their solutions for gear manufacturers, Seco gear hobs have effectively met the challenges of machining gears, improving the operations of manufacturers around the world
Having achieved significant success with the unique modular concept created for its gear hobs, Seco Italy explored variations of this design to create a new solution. By splitting the single module into two half helixes and placing them on the same module, the team developed a cutter that offered the same benefits of reliability and quality, with significant reduction in cycle times.
Seco Italy worked closely throughout the development process with C.I.R. Ingranaggi S.r.l., a highly successful gear manufacturer located in Pogliano Milanese, close to Milan. The team successfully tested out the double-start gear hob, with the new cutter decreasing cycle time on the target project from 22 hours to 3 hours, a reduction of over 85%.
Every gear hob produced by Seco is measured with dedicated CMM and application-specific software developed in partnership with Zeiss. Through this, Seco is able to certify each gear hob manufactured as quality Class B, an exceptional level considering the total tolerance from inserts and pockets.
