Auckland based Seatrak Electronics have been active in the marine satellite communications arena. A recent advancement in the sector has been in the V Sat in the Pacific. Smaller dishes such as the 1 metre 4006 have not been used extensively in the Pacific Islands such as Tahiti, New Caledonia, Fiji and Vanuatu. The size of the dish always had to be considered when trying to optimise communications to provide yachts with the ability to communicate effectively in tough and unrelenting environments.
Seatrak Electronics have installed the Seatel 4006 satellite dish on a 140 feet Peri Navi sailing yacht, which has visited most of the major Pacific islands. The communications system has allowed customers to access true broadband internet speeds as well as business quality phone lines.
