Leading materials handling systems supplier Schaefer Systems International will be sponsoring the Young Professional of the Year Award for the fourth consecutive year at the 2012 Mercury Awards.
According to Alan Clark, Managing Director of SSI Schaefer, inspirational young people like Daniel Castle, Principal Supply Chain Analyst, Bluescope Steel and winner of 2011’s Young Professional of the Year Award are indication that the materials handling and supply chain industry is going to be in good hands in the future.
Mr Clark explained that Daniel’s role required him to develop and implement a Cost to Serve tool for BlueScope Steel’s Australian-based sales. This tool is viewed as a critical enabler in improving margins for BlueScope Steel in a mature domestic market.
Daniel has also introduced another key business initiative around international freight optimisation that meets the ongoing business drive to lower costs for international distribution.
The solution has been delivered by configuring the company’s Transport Management System to optimise freight in containers in the same way that the system optimises domestic road and rail movements.
Daniel’s solution has allowed BlueScope to improve container utilisation for the movement of international freight by about 10%.
Mr Clark adds that the Young Professional of the Year Award recognises young people who have excelled in the provision of services, development of strategy and supply chain management. SSI Schaefer is proud to be associated with an award that recognises the future leaders of the industry.
