According to Scanning and Inspection, it is possible to scan inside a hollow object. A user can see porosity inside a casting and non-destructively scan the internals of delicate prototypes. Users can also scan water jackets without having to cut up expensive alloy cylinder heads.
Using the x-ray technology of CT scanning, users can capture a complete 3D scan of a specific part, inside and out. This technology is particualrly useful where traditional surface 3D scanning falters, allowing complete access to all areas of the part, no matter how obscured from view it might be.
