A manual sortation carousel was recently installed at the North Queensland depot of a high profile freight company. Supplied by Scale Components in Brisbane, the manual sortation carousel alleviates the need for staff to manually carry fright to different bays for storage.

Incoming freight is placed onto the manual sortation carousel and then removed from the conveyor by staff positioned at the various cage bays. Scale Components supplied and fitted all required side and guard rails as well as providing walk over access to the internal space of the manual sortation carousel which requires the conveyor to be stopped.

The total conveyor length is approximately 100 metres of crescent moon plates using a polyurethane elastomer deck to provide highly durable and stable conveyor operation. A mid-friction coating applied to the conveyor deck further improves depot OH&S by minimising the chance of freight slipping off the manual sortation carousel and causing damage or operator injury.

A single SEW motor drives the manual sortation carousel, which is designed for unidirectional operation and fitted with both light and audible warnings before the conveyor starts. Four Start/Stop/Emergency Stop stations are fitted underneath the conveyor to minimise potential damage by passing freight overhanging the conveyor.

A pallet stretch wrapper (turntable type) was also supplied to this client for increased pallet stability and security of freight being dispatched to the same general destinations.

Scale Components is a specialised supplier of cubing and dimensioning systems to the freight and warehousing Industries and also supplies and commissions conveyor systems of all types and lengths.
