An in-motion bar code scanning system from Scale Components was recently commissioned to automate the process of item tracking on a moving conveyor line. The automatic bar code scanning updates the location and time stamp of freight passing through the depot to increase quality of service for freight clients.
The in-motion bar code scanning system was installed at the Brisbane depot of a high profile Queensland based freight provider. Scale Components’ BarColate Software is now used to correctly identify each carton, regardless of how many redundant bar code stickers are still attached to the carton.
The bar code scanning hardware utilises four laser scanners positioned on a mounting frame to allowing for bar code detection on the top and both sides of freighted items as they travel along the conveyor.
To ensure the required freight throughput could be achieved, Scale Components also supplied two spacing/accelerating roller conveyors and the required control hardware to ensure correct spacing of freight as it enters the scanning conveyor.
An automatic reject spur with control hardware was fitted behind the in-motion bar code scanner to reject freight with missing or damaged bar code labels. These items can then be removed from the conveyor line for manual processing and reworking.
Scale Components is fully experienced with all facets of freight handlings requirements including dimensioning, in-motion weighing and automatic bar code scanning.
