Scale Components recently commissioned a catch weigher at a freight depot in Adelaide to help increase freight processing efficiency.
Catch weighers are in-motion weighing systems certified for trade use by the National Measurement Institute (NMI).
Similar in operation to an in-motion check weigher, catch weighers are certified standalone devices and do not require random samples to be tested for weighing accuracy on a second set of trade approved scales.
The catch weigher installation was part of a major plant upgrade to automatically process incoming and outgoing freight items at the depot.
Scale Components manufactured and supplied the SC4000 catch weigher to client requirements with a weighing frame size measuring 1900mm L x 1000mm W and running at a conveyor speed of up to 70 metres per minute.
The catch weigher was mechanically and electrically interfaced to the equipment supplied by other contractors, which included a carton cubing system, a bar code scanning system as well as multiple lead-in and lead-out conveyors.
Scale Components supplied a low level motor control system for independent control of each motorised conveyor to precisely regulate the required spacing between each freight item entering the catch weigher.
In recognition of Scale Components’ highly regarded programming abilities, the company was also awarded the contract to provide a PC and custom high level data capture and software integration system to process the data from the catch weigher as well as other connected system devices for forwarding to the client’s dedicated billing software.
Scale Components is a specialised service provider for the freight and logistics industries offering weighing and dimension equipment, in-motion catch weighers as well as an extensive portfolio of motor control and software management solutions.
