Satcam recommends T-Tech’s Copperset as one of the best ways to achieve small-to-medium quantities of hollow through hole-connections.
These economical through-hole connectivity systems are one-at-a-time manual systems for 1.6mm material only.
A bail-bar containing 25 bails is placed in a hand-held inserter. The first bail is slid out, pushed through the board and carefully broken off. The board is then placed on a flat surface (quick circuit machine bed), and the bail is expanded into the hole with a spring-loaded hand-held punch rather like an automatic centre-punch. The bail consists of a thin shell of copper over a core of solder. Then the solder needs to be sucked out with a capillary wick product (included in the kit) or a solder-sucker, to obtain a good quality “plated-through” hole.
The kit comprising the Copperset through-hole connectivity systems contains tooling for three sizes of bail, 0.8mm, 1.0mm and 1.2mm, and 20 bailbars (500 bails) of each size.
