MTU opens in Kalgoorlie
MTU Detroit Diesel Australia has opened its new Kalgoorlie branch, the latest in the Australia-wide program to expand its network.
The new facility will commence with 19 staff, including eight mechanics and four apprentices, and will service the entire Kalgoorlie region.
The Kalgoorlie branch will bring together technology for diesel engines and transmissions, with its major source of income coming from the mining industry.
Operations based in the Kalgoorlie region largely use MTU Detroit Diesel and Mercedes-Benz engines in mining equipment, generator sets, pumps and on and off highway trucks.
Major local customers include Sandvik Mining & Construction , Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines, Barminco, Barrick, BHP , GBF Underground, Goldfields Mine Management, Kalgoorlie Power Systems and Globe Drill.
The workshop will provide eight drive-through truck bays, a fully equipped engine rebuild area, an Allison transmission support area, an environmentally friendly wash-down bay, a 17-metre service pit and a 20-tonne overhead crane.
