Sandvik Coromant introduces new series steel turning grade

New steel turning grade GC4215 from Sandvik Coromant delivers higher performance machining results across a wide steel application area and enables increased cutting data in wet and dry conditions.

Advanced grade technology has allowed GC4215 to improve productivity without losing security in the P15 area for roughing to finishing and at continuous to light intermittent cuts in P10 to P20 applications.

GC4215 opens the way to increased cutting data compared to other grades in all P15 applications.

The new carbide substrate and coating technology combine to provide a stronger edge line and enable wider application, including as an optimiser and complement to GC4225 in the P20 area.

Performance is secure and reliable due to the significantly improved resistance to deformation and wear supplied by the new carbide substrate and stressless coating technology.

Performance is good in continuous cuts, ensuring high machining security in low carbon steels through to low and high alloyed steels and as a good backup option for cast iron turning applications demanding toughness.

Wear detection is easy due to the black and gold coating worn by all new insert generation steel turning grades.

GC4215 is the new addition to Sandvik Coromant’s chain of productive steel turning grades. GC4225, GC4235 and the new GC4215 offer the substantial benefits of the new insert generation, namely: lower production costs; confidence for unmanned machining and large series production and an even performance from batch to batch.

Further benefits include higher machine utilisation, since the stronger edge lines mean fewer stoppages from insert breakage and more continuous production with fewer machine adjustments due to reduced tool wear and maintenance. Dry machining is also possible.

The thicker Al203 low stress aluminium coating provides maximum thermal and chemical protection; the MTCVD TiCN coating provides perfect possible mechanical wear resistance and adherence to substrate and the gradient/substrate is optimised for maximum deformation resistance without loss of toughness.
