Sanderson to improve factory efficiency for Susan Day Cakes with Formul8 software
Sanderson Australia , provider of software for the food and drink industry, has been awarded a contract to supply its Formul8 process management software solution to fresh cakes manufacturer Susan Day Cakes.
Susan Day Cakes is a privately-owned manufacturer of fresh cakes and supplies Coles supermarkets nationally as well as providing a contract manufacture service.
The cake manufacturer identified that its existing IT systems were inefficient and needed a high volume of manual input and were unable to supply detailed planning and management information. Susan Day Cakes will use Formul8 process management software to automate warehouse, back office and factory processes, therefore removing manual input where possible to offer real-time business visibility.
By integrating factory floor weigh scales with industrial touch screen PCs, Formul8 process management software will record precise ingredient weights directly into its central recipe management system.
This will help to reduce spoilt batches and improve product consistency. By providing Susan Day with real-time monitoring of production processes, scheduling will also be improved – and Formul8 process management software will also provide ‘what if’ planning routines to improve the scheduling of promotional activity.
For warehousing, Sanderson Radio Data Terminals (RDTs) will allow stock information to be captured and accessed via Formul8 real-time. The process management system will automatically generate Serial Shipping Container Code labels for both full and part pallet picks via the hand-held RDT’s.
For sales orders, Advanced Shipping Notices and invoices will be exchanged electronically with Coles, using the software’s Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) functionality to directly send and receive them. This will help to increase Susan Day’s responsiveness to customer requests and reduce manual input, reducing the risks and costs associated with human error.
Anthony Vautin, Managing Director at Susan Day Cakes, explained, “We were looking for an IT solution that offered more than back office data processing. I have a vision for a single solution that will interface with our factory floor equipment and provide up to the minute visibility of our operation with little or no manual input. Sanderson were able to demonstrate much of this capability over other software vendors and the ‘what-if’ planning enhancement will help us to respond faster during promotions.”
“Our factory automation solutions further highlight our commitment to providing a specialist IT solution for the food and drink industry, and make Formul8 a stand out choice for any food manufacturer. We look forward to working with Susan Day over the coming months and seeing the business benefits delivered by our software,” Mark Lofthouse, Product Manager for Sanderson, concluded.
