Mining, electrical and construction workers often struggle with with slipping hard hats, which can be an unwelcome distraction from their job. An Australian designer has been commissioned to fix this problem and has come up with the Safe-Mate hard hat and welding helmet accessory.

Lorraine was approached by her son, a concrete contractor, to solve a long and unrelenting problem with industrial safety helmets he was required to wear at all times or risk being fined.

Within one week Lorraine found that hair was the reason the protective head wear was slipping and flying off, so she devised a product that would overcome this problem.

The Safe-Mate is very effective design, that once fitted onto the nape of the hard hat bypasses the hair and allows the hard hat to sit directly onto the head.

It turned out to be a success and has been well received by safety officers and workers who wear hard hats.

The design has been developed into four products that will be seen on the market within one year, the first of which is Safe-Mate, an accessory for all hard hats and welding helmets.
