The Safe-Mate accessory fitted to a hard hat acted as a break and stopped injury from a rock fall in a recent mining accident. Therefore, mining and industrial and all hard hat wearers snapped up this new accessory.
Scott-Smith was working underground, air-legging ground support, while a hole at about 80 degrees was being bored above him. A large rock (approximately 25kg) dislodged itself from behind the ventilation unit and landed on the front of his hard hat, smashing and dislodging the cap lamp and his right ear muff. A second rock fell and landed directly on top of his hard hat. Scott-Smith was wearing the Safe-Mate which helped him to avoid further injury.
