ST Microelectronics is showcasing a broad range of set-top box (STB) solutions under the theme ‘The Future of Entertainment’ at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC 2010).
Philippe Lambinet, Executive Vice President and General Manager of ST’s Home Entertainment and Displays Group says that network convergence trends have led consumers to expect a wider range of home entertainment services through more exciting and intuitive user experiences while reducing their impact on the environment.
“ST is driving the technologies that enable the fusion between broadcast and broadband to open up new services and greater interactivity on the TV.”
At the convention, ST will be displaying a variety of service-expanding middleware and applications running on STi7105 and STi7108 platforms. These same platforms will also be running advanced broadband technologies such as Adobe Flash for Digital Home, the Android platform and the Nokia Qt cross-platform application framework.
In its continuing drive to improve user experience and offer the fullest multimedia experience possible, ST along with its partners will demonstrate several spectacular 3D user interfaces, powered by the STi7108 with OpenGL-ES 2.0.
The STi7108 platform’s processing power enables the set-top box platform to deliver 3D gaming, as well as the streaming of full-HD stereoscopic 3DTV.
