A NEW carton filling system from SMI Pacifica uses inline technology to place divider boards while the bottles pass smoothly underneath on a constant level.
The carton is then formed as a wraparound, still without having to lift or disturb the bottles.
The SMI Partition Inserter system operates at speeds up to 45 cartons a minute, in conjunction with SMI Wraparound Case Packers.
“It just looks right,” say packaging engineers when they see how SMI’s continuous linear motion does away with the need to lift, transfer and lower groups of bottles.
Benefits exceed the obvious reductions in breakages, stoppages and maintenance. The SMI system also reduces carton costs by using less board in both the carton and the divider.
It will accept a wide range of divider or carton stocks and the same cartons can be used with or without dividers as required.
A touchscreen controls instant changeovers between different products, sizes and configurations, such as 2 x 3, 3 x 4, and 4 x 6.
The Partition Inserter can usually be retro-fitted above existing SMI wraparaound packers, depending on available space.
SMI’s range includes multi-packers, tray packers and PET bottle moulders, all based on smooth-flowing, inline technology.
