THE special demands of food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and clean room applications have been a major factor in the design of new profile air cylinders, according to the manufacturer, SMC Pneumatics.
The design of the new cylinders is claimed to minimise accumulation by the units of dust and other particulate matter present in the operating environment.
Conforming to ISO and VDMA dimensional interchangeability standards, the cylinders are constructed with tie-rods enclosed in an extruded aluminium profile barrel.
The barrel is integrated with both end covers and grooves are provided on all four sides of the cylinder body to accommodate mounting of auto switches.
To maintain the profile, switches mount flush with the body and unused grooves can be covered with optional resin fastener strips, thereby reducing the risk of contaminant accumulation.
CP95 cylinders are available in a double acting, single rod specification.
Piston rods are constructed of hard chromed steel and precision machined to match bushing tolerances minimises cylinder friction and an internal floating seal mechanism that eliminates rod lurching during end of stroke cushioning.
Cushion valves are recessed into the end covers to complement the cylinder's clean profile and are manually adjustable using a hexagonal wrench.
The cylinders are available in six bore sizes ranging from 23 to 100mm and 11 standard stroke lengths from 25 to 500mm. They operate at compressed air pressures from 0.05 to 1.0MPa, offer piston speeds from 50 to 1000mm/s and provide piston forces up to 7500N.
