SMC Pneumatics has released the Series CLS compact locking cylinders designed to afford extra security and safety on production and assembly lines in the event of changes in air pressure.
The locking cylinder prevents piston dropping caused by a decrease in air supply or when the residual pressure is exhausted.
The device can be locked at any position and the setting can be changed to ensure locking during extension, retraction or secure clamping of the work piece.
The locking direction can be selected which ensures that drop prevention can be achieved for either downward or upward facing cylinders or while in a clamped condition.
The lock ring stops the cylinder in its current position by clamping around the outside surface should the air supply be cut. The user-specified locking direction ensures drop prevention at end of stroke or at mid-stroke emergency stops.
The models are also suitable for maintaining the position of equipment during shutdown periods when the air supply is cut off. Since the lock ring is released by the same air source as the cylinder, no additional valving is required.
The lock can hold loads of up to 3900N depending on the cylinder selected. The single rod, double acting cylinders are available in bore sizes of up to 100mm and have operating pressures ranging from 0.1MPa to 1.0MPa. Standard stroke lengths are from 5mm to 100mm.
Female threaded rod ends are supplied as standard, with male rod end threads available as options. Mounting can be achieved through hole mounting or double end tap mounting. SMC Pneumatics 02 9354 8222.
