Siemens PLM Software celebrates ingenuity in Asia with Asia Pacific Innovation Awards 2012

Supplier News
Siemens PLM Software  announced the winners of the Asia Pacific Innovation Awards 2012 with Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd receiving the top honour.

The awards once again place a spotlight on how PLM technology enables companies to make smarter decisions that lead to the creation of better products. The top award is presented to the company that uses PLM technology in a way that enables them to be a hallmark of success in the manufacturing industry, maximising the value derived from their products throughout the entire lifecycle to streamline their productivity and performance.

Siemens PLM Software is a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management software and services.

The winner, Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd was followed by first runner-up Korean Air Lines Co. Ltd, Aerospace division, and second runner-up SAIC GM Wuling Automobile Co., Ltd. The awards were presented during the Asia Pacific Executive Client Event (APECE), which brings together industry leaders to share PLM best practices.

Each of the nominees demonstrated outstanding innovation in their application of PLM solutions for their businesses.

For instance, implementing Tecnomatix portfolio, a widely used software in the digital manufacturing market segment enabled Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd to come closer than ever before to real-time digital manufacturing. Mahindra also gained from benefits such as a 25% reduction in greenfield plant set-up time, a 28% improvement in effective working time by validating and reducing non-value add activities and an overall increase in flexibility, which produced more product model mixes and reduced time-to-market.

First runner-up, Korean Air Lines Co. Ltd, Aerospace division, implemented the Teamcenter portfolio, a widely used digital lifecycle management system in their R&D efforts for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in order to simplify overall processes and build a solid, PLM-based engineering backbone.

Second runner-up, SAIC GM Wuling Automobile Co., Ltd, used Teamcenter to build an internal and external product collaborative design platform, thus reducing their product R&D cycle.

Award entries were evaluated by a panel of judges according to the unique business challenges that each company faced, and the steps and solutions that each company took to overcome them. Innovation was considered through the lens of PLM implementation that enabled each company to garner benefits now and explore the next steps necessary to leverage PLM technology to an even greater extent.
