Siemens PLM Software announces new monthly subscription model of targeted Solid Edge offerings for Local Motors community

Supplier News

Siemens PLM Software  is introducing a new subscription licensing model for several functional levels of Solid Edge software exclusively through their partner, Local Motors to the Local Motors global community.

Siemens PLM Software is a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management software and services.

This announcement will enable the diverse Local Motors global community to select from multiple levels of professional-grade computer aided design (CAD) functionality to best match their varied design requirements and download at an easy-to-afford monthly rate.

Starting with Solid Edge Design1 software, the recently announced solution allows the Local Motors community to now move up the functional ladder to license Solid Edge Design and Drafting, Solid Edge Foundation, Solid Edge Classic and finally to Solid Edge Premium.

The synchronous technology capability that combines the speed and flexibility of direct modelling with the precise control of dimension driven design is part of all functional levels of Solid Edge.

The latest Siemens PLM Software announcement allows all offerings to be downloaded and licensed on a month-to-month basis with no long-term commitment and at an affordable price.

According to Jay Rogers, President, CEO and Co-Founder, Local Motors, their unique co-creation process attracts a number of different personas to their online automotive design community with each one bringing a different background and set of requirements for the level of functionality they need in a CAD tool.

While the Solid Edge Design1 software is primarily targeted at the needs of the typical design and engineering enthusiasts in the community, small proprietors in the OEM or supplier aftermarket, or even managers working for automotive OEMs may want to tap into this community or possibly outsource projects, which might require a broader spectrum of CAD functionality that can be met by the pay-as-you-go subscription model.

According to Karsten Newbury, senior vice president and general manager, Mainstream Engineering Software Business Segment, Siemens PLM Software, Solid Edge Design1 eliminated the cost barrier that prevented access to professional grade CAD software for the design and engineering enthusiasts in Local Motors’ community.

The easy-to-afford monthly subscription combined with industry-leading synchronous technology places Solid Edge Design1 as the perfect starting point for design enthusiasts.

With this announcement, Siemens PLM Software is taking yet another step forward toward making professional-grade CAD more easily available to a broad cross-section of users from the design enthusiast to the maker of new products.
