SICK’s UM 18 ultrasonic sensor is now also available as an analogue output version. The device can now be used for continuously detecting and transmitting distance or height changes over scanning distances between 30mm and 250mm. The sensor’s short and robust M18 fine-thread housing offers one or two switching outputs. The switching threshold can be programmed by teach-in or via a control cable.

The UM 18 offers analogue output options of either 4mA - 20mA or 0V - 10V dc. While the standard version offers a single switching output, the UM 18 high-end has two switching outputs - necessary for min-max regulation during level detection or the regulation of slack - in addition to two function LEDs.

Integrated temperature compensation ensures detection accuracy and reliability are unaffected by any changes in the ambient temperature.

The analogue UM 18 is used, for example, for checking liquid levels even in harsh environments, measuring filling levels in cartridges and dispensing machines, detecting transparent objects such as foils, or monitoring slack in web products.
