The displacement sensors of the OD series from SICK meet high accuracy and speed demands when measuring objects in the micron range. OD Value is the appropriate brand name for the new series of displacement sensors from SICK. With four different measurement ranges from 26…34 mm to 60…180 mm and resolutions between 2 µm and 30 µm, the OD Value is suitable for numerous tasks.
Thanks to CMOS technology, the devices are capable of precisely measuring the position of bright, dark or highly reflective objects. The extremely accurate distance sensors offer a high level of reliability, very simple operation and high interface flexibility.

They are used, among other areas, in the electronics, robotics, automotive and packaging industry. Most often they monitor the position of objects; measure profiles, diameters or thicknesses. On irregular surfaces the smallest deviation or notch can be detected. Generally speaking the OD Value takes on all quality relevant functions where µ-meters matter, e.g. for inline quality inspection, process regulation or product classification.
Displacement Sensors - Signal output as desired
Four different interfaces are available for integrating OD Value distance sensors, which require no supplementary evaluation unit. In addition to the RS-422 option with a switching output, there is a model with two switching outputs, as well as variants with an analogue current or voltage output (4 - 20 mA or 0 - 10 V) and two switching outputs available. The series therefore offers maximum flexibility for its integration into any factory automation application.
Displacement Sensors - Simply better quality
In addition to all its precision and flexibility the OD Value series of displacement sensors are particularly easy to operate. The sensors are taught an object’s pattern, for example, via teach-in. A press of a button is all that’s required and measurement can begin – with a measurement frequency of up to 2 kHz if necessary. Its enclosure rating of IP67 allows the OD Value to master harsh operating conditions. This feature plus its very competitive price level opens up many other areas of use, e.g. in the packaging, paper and timber industries, in addition to its traditional applications in the automotive electronics, and robotics market.
