Multi-functional switching outputs for standby, preset and other system functions, a device display with all the information available at a glance, and a particularly user-friendly mounting and alignment concept, are features of the light and compact device.
The DME 5000's ambient temperature range has been designed for +55°C to -40°C. Thus the device is also suitable for use in deep-freeze storage plants.
Distance measurement devices such as the DME 5000 are used for determining the position of storage and retrieval devices (SRDs) in automated warehouse technology.
In the process, the sensor is transported on the vehicle and permanently measures the time-of-flight of a transmitted light impulse to the end of the shelving aisle and back.
The electronics use this to determine the position of the SRD and provide the data to the vehicle's control system.
Two warehouse types of differing sizes are predominantly targeted: automated small-parts stores for containers of varying dimensions, and the structurally larger high-bay warehouses for Europallets and the specific system pallets sometimes used.
The new DME 5000 is suitable for process speeds of up to 10m/s and takes the differing requirements of the two types of warehouse into account with its two range-oriented versions for 70m and 150m.
Thus the 70m version is characterised by highly dynamic control characteristics: an up-to-date measurement value is provided every millisecond.
A variety of improvements, such as the sensor's reduced temperature drift of only 0.1mm/K, ensure an accuracy of ±2mm with a reproducibility of 0.5mm, thus achieving extremely rapid and precise positioning of the SRD at the container's storage space.
The 150m variant of the DME 5000 is the right choice in high-bay warehouses with their longer SRD paths and larger pallet storage spaces. It provides a measurement value every two milliseconds with an accuracy of ±3mm. Thus particularly rapid positioning processes are possible here too.
Whether 70m or 150m variant, both types of DME 5000 have important, application-relevant device features. During commissioning, as well as during subsequent operation, the illuminated display shows all the important status and diagnostic functions at a glance.
The visible red light beam, and the horizontally and vertically adjustable alignment mounting on which the DME 5000 is securely fixed with just three screws, simplify mounting. SSI and Profibus interfaces are also available.
Moreover, there are two multi-functional switching outputs, e.g. for pre-defined distance values, temperature warnings or an advance pre-fault warning.
These outputs can, however, also be programmed as inputs. Thus it is possible to use an output as a standby input, via which the DME 5000 can be activated by an external signal. In standby mode the transmitter is only started when necessary and thus achieves a longer operational lifetime.
The preset function is a further system option, with which a more rapid and millimetre-precise calibration between the defined target position and the actual measured position of the SRD in the aisle is achieved during commissioning of the DME 5000 - by running past an initiator as a reference mark.
Alternatively both functions, standby and preset, can be set up via the Profibus interface.
The DME 5000 has CSA and UL approvals.
