Dematic provides a wide range of intelligent logistics and material handling solutions to the worldwide market.
To improve efficiency, along with reducing costs, Dematic wanted a modular sensor solution for its conveyor technologies which would meet or improve detection performance over its existing solutions. To prevent collisions, gantry cranes in ports are equipped with outdoor laser measurement technology by Sick .
As Dematic looked to standardize its conveyor designs globally, it also wanted to standardize a photoelectric sensing solution. A complete sensor, reflector and modular mounting bracket system was designed to allow for reliable performance, adjustability and, most importantly, easy installation.
At the core of the solution was the ZL3 photoelectric sensor. A bracket system was designed around the ZL3 to meet various application mounting requirements, while sharing the same photoelectric sensor and mounting configurations. A corresponding reflector solution was incorporated into the same mounting configurations and allowed the photoelectric sensor mounting brackets to be shared with the reflector mounting brackets.
The entire solution was engineered to integrate seamlessly with Dematic's conveyor side channel designs and intended application functions. All this while allowing the core components to be shared in several end assembly configurations. The final solution limited the requirements for complex installation adjustments and reduced the likelihood of mistakes in the installation process.
The ZL3 provided Dematic effective and reliable performance for material handling applications. The modular approach undertaken allowed for fewer special part numbers and configurations.
