SICK has released the DT 500 and DS 500 distance scanners. They have a range of 18m on a black background and an accuracy of 3mm.
They have a temperature drift of 0.05mm/K. An integrated display allows setting of the measurement range and switching thresholds as well as the display of current system functions.
The DS 500 is a distance sensor with two switching outputs that can be adjusted via the display. With the DT 500, users have a choice between a 20mA analogue output and a serial RS-422 measurement data output. The start and end of the measurement range can be freely programmed via the display and operating panel.
Applications for the DS 500 include the distancing of objects, vehicles or cranes for collision prevention, the detection of small parts at long scanning distances, and part detection during automatic handling. The DT 500 is used in applications in which the output of measurement values is necessary. Typical examples are Contour detection is a typical application. It can continuously detect the winding diameter of paper or steel coils or measure stack heights. Device heating and a suitable weather protection hood are available for both scanners to allow outdoor use.
