The automatic identification system from SICK gives companies like the Swiss Postal Services the opportunity to modernised conveyor and sorting facilities.

The most important goals behind the modernisation where the optimisation of sorting processes and increase in reading rates – especially in the case of damaged, dirty, or incomplete bar codes. This new automatic identification system from SICK resulted in Swiss Postal Services applying it to several sections of its facility.

ICR890 camera systems, CLV490 bar code scanners, OPS590 omniportal code reading systems, and VMS410 volume measurement systems all ensure reliable detection of bar codes and Data Matrix codes and permit imaging for automated video coding as well as volume measurement of all transported and sorted parcels.

To form complete automated identification solutions, the MSC800 modular system controller helped implement optimum and reliable networking of all individual components. In addition, SICK worked together with the Postal Services team in developing an Ethernet Powerlink interface for transferring the process data, which met the system requirements for real-time communication between sorter control and the automatic identification system.
