Available from Sick , the POMUX KH53 absolute linear encoder system is now available as an Advanced version, with a positional tolerance that has been substantially increased to 20 mm.

The sensor unit of the positioning system is capable of reliably detecting the measurement bodies mounted along a drive path – even with large tolerances. The Advanced version offers two variants for measurement lengths of up to 54 m and up to 548 m. Thus typical tasks in detecting the position of cranes, in handling and warehousing systems, or for rail-mounted vehicles are covered – in both indoor and outdoor use.

The POMUX KH53 Advanced is an extremely precise linear position detection system. The sensor unit determines the actual current position of the crane or vehicle with great repeatability, by means of non-contact scanning of reference marks mounted along the drive path. These consist of aluminium profiles with integrated permanent magnets, whose distance to one another represents a fixed position coding identified by the sensor unit’s magneto-resistive sensors.

The positional tolerance of the POMUX KH53 Advanced has been increased to 20mm, whereby the proven POMUX technology (both in the reading head and in the measurement bodies) has been modified accordingly. Positions are now reliably detected even if the distances between the sensor unit and the measurement bodies vary to a greater extent – generally in applications with harsh environmental conditions.

Largely maintenance-free thanks to non-contact technology

With its non-contact technology, the POMUX KH53 Advanced system is completely free of wear. If necessary, the measurement bodies can also be installed within the floor of the drive path to protect them from mechanical damage. No reference run is required when the plant is started up – due to the absolute position determination. A suitable system price, together with high reliability and availability even under poor environmental conditions, make the system interesting for upgrading crane and transfer systems as well as automatic transport vehicles.
