Leading drives solutions group, SEW Eurodrive , recently treated its Queensland customers to a memorable cocktail evening at the Da Vinci Exhibition in Brisbane—culminating in a ride on the landmark ‘Wheel of Brisbane’ ferris wheel. SEW-Eurodrive is the presenting sponsor of ‘The Da Vinci Machines: an exhibition of genius’ as it tours the country, and the company has also provided the gear units for the rotation of the Wheel of Brisbane.
According to SEW-Eurodrive Queensland Manager, Garry Jarvis, the cocktail evening provided a friendly and relaxed environment for SEW-Eurodrive staff and industry contacts to intermingle in a social setting. “There was a good mix of our customers and their partners, with the evening attracting more than 130 guests,” he said. “Everybody enjoyed the evening and the opportunity to experience engineering excellence spanning five centuries. The ride on the Wheel of Brisbane proved the perfect finale.”
The Wheel of Brisbane—opened to the public in August 2008—is powered by four 30kW dc motors, each featuring an R137 inline helical gear unit from SEW-Eurodrive. The wheel can accommodate 336 people in 42 carriages, and—standing 60m above Brisbane’s South Bank precinct—provides breathtaking views across the city and the Brisbane River.
“The trip on the Wheel of Brisbane was extremely enjoyable, and the Da Vinci Exhibition itself was fascinating, especially when you consider that so many of his ideas are still being used today,” said SEW-Eurodrive customer, Ray Hatt, General Manager of Bundaberg Walkers Engineering Limited. “All round it was an excellent evening, which had been very well arranged by SEW. It is evident that SEW-Eurodrive invests much time and effort into customer care.”
