Drive solutions specialist, SEW Eurodrive , will play a key role in the 2009/2010 New Year’s Eve celebrations in Times Square, New York City. A custom-made winch system used to lower the famous New Year’s Eve Ball will be driven by a 30kW SEW-Eurodrive gearmotor, delivering a high-level combination of reliability and performance.
The NYE Ball will be lowered slowly, travelling just 21 metres over the final minute of the year—this speed of descent translates to about 6rpm in the gearmotor's output shaft. “Drive applications like this one call for innovative solutions,” said SEW-Eurodrive Australia Managing Director, Rob Merola. “Traditionally, this event is viewed by millions of people, so it’s crucial that only reliable, high-performance technologies are used.
