Global drive solutions group, SEW Eurodrive, has unveiled a technologically advanced version of its renowned MOVITRAC standard frequency inverter range.
Founded on the company’s popular MOVITRAC 07 series, the new MOVITRAC B series is available in nine separate frame sizes, and supports over 20 power ratings ranging from 0.25 kW to 132 kW.
Incorporating state-of-the-art power and digital electronics, the MOVTRAC B is economical, yet is packed with operational features and advanced functionality.
Presented in an ultra-slim bookshelf format, the MOVITRAC B is a compact inverters of its type in Australia. Building on the solid capabilities of its predecessor, the new drive series offers powerful drive system solutions via its optional plug-and-play control and networking capabilities.
According to SEW-Eurodrive, the MOVITRAC B provides the Australian market with a truly scaleable standard inverter, one that can span the breadth of industrial applications, such as hoists, travel drives, conveyors, agitators, fans, pumps, rotary tables and metering systems.
In isolation, it is a powerful and fully-featured standard inverter, with unique capabilities for its class and price-point. But it is MOVITRAC B’s add-on functionality, via the unit’s built-in plug-and-play expansion slot, that opens the door to a wide range of drive system control, connectivity and communications.
A notable MOVITRAC B add-on option is SEW-Eurodrive’s MOVI-PLC motion controller, simply incorporated into the MOVITRAC B’s expansion slot it empowers MOVITRAC B to address higher-end drive systems applications.
MOVITRAC B’s powerful output power electronics ensure the unit can support unshielded power cable lengths up to 200 metres (shielded cables up to 100 metres). The unit supports two control modes: V/F control for simple start-up, and voltage flux control (VFC) for field-oriented control without an encoder. It also incorporates an integrated brake chopper, which permits MOVITRAC ‘B’ to take on challenging applications such as hoist applications and four-quadrant control. Additionally, it includes a range of programmable digital and analogue I/O, plus an onboard 10-volt supply, allowing easy integration into external control systems.
Beyond the MOVI-PLC motion controller/PLC, MOVITRAC B’s add-on library includes a wide range of I/O modules and communications interfaces. MOVITRAC B’ supports RS-485 and CANopen serial communications as standard, plus its own system bus, which permits peer-to-peer connection of up to 64 MOVITRAC B units.
Optional add-on communications interface options include a range of fieldbus protocols such as PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, INTERBUS and CANopen.
Programming of the MOVITRAC B may be carried out via an optional plug-in key-pad. This intuitive and easy-to-use interface provides all necessary set point display and setting functionality via its nine LED/six-key panel. The keypad may be easily moved from unit to unit, transferring pre-stored drive configurations quickly and easily.
Panel mounting and maintenance is made all the easier with MOVITRAC B’s new separable power and control terminals. This simple plug-in/plug-out connectivity ensures drive change outs can be completed in minutes without the risk of wiring errors.
This, in conjunction with its compact size and the availability of cold plate heat sink technology, ensures MOVITRAC B’ is a field-practical drive solution.
