Leading drive solutions provider, SEW-Eurodrive has extended its energy-efficient DR motor series with the inclusion of new two-pole and six-pole variants, complementing its established four-pole DR motor varieties.
Combined with a wealth of user-options, the extended DR motor line-up provides Australian industry with enhanced motor choice and flexibility, delivering optimised energy efficiencies to a broad range of drive applications.
According to SEW-Eurodrive Engineering Manager, Frank Cerra, the addition of two- and six-pole DR motor options enables more precise matching of gear ratios to a wider range of end-user applications.
“Two-pole motors are ideal for high-speed applications, such as fans or pumps,” he said. “Conversely, the slower-operating speed of six-pole motors can be leveraged to circumvent the need for a multi-stage gear-unit. This both minimises the size of the gearmotor assembly, and reduces the cost to the end user.”
The two-pole motor option is offered in outputs ranging from 0.25 to 9.2kW, and the six-pole motor is available from 0.18 to 5.5kW.
The new two- and six-pole options are available in IE2-class DRE (high efficiency) and IE3-class DRP (premium efficiency) motor variants within the DR family. These are all designed to exceed the efficiency requirements of the International Motor Efficiency Standard IEC60034-30 and the current Australian Standard AS1359.5.
Not only does the DR series meet efficiency classes worldwide, but it boasts one of the most flexible designs on the market, with a myriad of options to suit a wide range of applications.
“Our premium efficiency DRP motors make very good sense for continuous or long-running drive applications, and can significantly minimise energy consumption, reduce operating costs and decrease greenhouse emissions,” said Cerra. “Moreover, the DR series is part of SEW’s modular drive system, which delivers huge benefits in terms of configurability and the choice of options available.”
The compact DR motors are available in a variety of form-factors including a choice of up to three different brake sizes per motor size, and various onboard inverter options.
Rated up to IP66, the DR series can be supplied with an extensive selection of features and mounting alternatives.
Additional flexibility can be obtained via various incremental and absolute encoders, and a built-in encoder.
SEW-Eurodrive also offers more compact copper-rotor variants of the DRE and DRP induction motors in addition to the traditional aluminium-rotor motors, thereby reducing losses in the rotor and consequently allowing for increased power within one frame size.
