SEW Eurodrive , will demonstrate their total solutions approach to the manufacturing industry at National Manufacturing Week 2009. The company will exhibit elements from their expansive and innovative electronic, electro-mechanical and mechanical solution-set, which make up the complete end-to-end drive solution. Furthermore, many of the technologies on display boast energy-saving features, providing opportunities for further improvements in drive-train efficiency.

According to Frank Cerra, Engineering Manager, SEW Eurodrive, Australian manufacturers are seeking out ‘one-stop’ drive solution providers. Australian manufacturers are demanding world-class drive solutions from a single supplier, from the gearbox through to the drive electronics. SEW Eurodrive work with Australian manufacturers and OEMs to develop comprehensive end-to-end drive solution sets.

The energy consumption of the selected drive technology has a decisive influence on operational costs. During the life-cycle of a drive system, it is the energy consumption component that constitutes the majority of the total life-cycle cost. Optimising the energy efficiency of each individual system component and combining the drive technology to match the specific application will achieve a significant economic benefit.

At the National Manufacturing Week 2009, SEW-Eurodrive will launch the W37 and W47 right-angle gear unit ranges. The W37 and W47 ranges deliver torques from 70Nm to 110Nm and 100Nm to 180Nm respectively, making both new series suitable for a wide range of conveying applications. The W37 and W47 right-angle gear unit features gear ratios as low as 3.2, the new W37 and W47 gear motor series incorporate a two-stage gearing arrangement, capable of delivering high output speeds and providing manufacturers with a higher degree of drive flexibility.

A new family of locally assembled extended bearing distance (EBD) gear units will also be unveiled at the show. The EBD MC Compact series of helical and helical-bevel gear units has been engineered to absorb the high bending moments and axial forces that occur in mixer and agitator applications. The Australian-assembled EBD MC Compact series is available now in various mounting arrangements and configuration options, and offered in five sizes, with torque ratings of 16kNm to 48kNm, suitable for motor powers up to 250kW.

SEW Eurodrive will also showcase their new MOVI-PLC Kinematics PLC/motion controller at National Manufacturing Week 2009. Combining kinematics control with conventional motion control, the MOVI-PLC now provides manufacturers with six ‘degree of freedom’ controllability comprising three-dimensional positioning and three planes of orientation, delivering new levels of motion control flexibility.

The MOVI-PLC Kinematics extends its functionality to three-dimensional path interpolation and tool rotation, accommodating corner rounding and ‘jogging’ of individual axis, making it suitable for gantry crane, pick-and-place and six-axis robotic applications. As it streamlines kinematics and conventional motion control, manufacturers now only need one control solution to control multi-axis applications and simple motion applications, such as in-feed and out-feed conveyors.
