SEW-Eurodrive will showcase the latest extension to its CMP family of servo motors at the 2010 National Manufacturing Week. Now delivering torque rating of 0.5 to 45Nm, the extended CMP series will be available in six distinct frame sizes with speed ratings of 3000, 4500 and 6000rpm. The new light-weight, compact CMP models are compatible with the existing CM and CMP servo series, and provide higher torque density than other servo units.
The new higher-torque models of the extended CMP range are also available with a choice of two brake torques, and two rotor inertias. “These new models give manufacturers the choice between a high and a low motor inertia,” said SEW-Eurodrive Victorian Sales and Product Manager, Darren Klonowski. “We recommend a ten-to-one ratio between the motor inertia and the load inertia to optimise stability and motor control. Having the choice of two rotor inertias for each model allows for optimal matching of the servo to the manufacturing application—all from a single series of servo motors.”
The CMP servo range possesses a particularly low inherent mass-moment of rotor inertia. In addition it offers a high ‘four times rated torque’ overload capacity, and cogging levels minimised to below two per cent. The machines emit sound levels to between 55 and 75dBA at all speeds.
The CMP servos are also complemented by SEW-Eurodrive’s wide range of high-precision and standard gear units. “In-house engineering of the servo drive/gear unit pair provides huge end-user advantages,” said Klonowksi. “It not only permits fast turn-around of the complete servo assemblies, but allows direct mounting of the gear units. As a result, the complete servo assemblies can be built up without mounting adaptors or couplings. This ensures that the servo units are as short and compact as possible, achieve minimal backlash performance, and can be assembled quickly and easily.”
The industry-standard round ‘canon’ plug connectors (both for power, and resolver/encoder connections) is included to increase equipment compatibility and to make on-site installation and servicing easier when combined with pre-manufactured cable assemblies.
Available options include:
- Standard robust resolver, which can be upgraded by a precision ‘Hiperface’ absolute encoder
- Standard connector, can be replaced on request with a terminal box
- Forced-cooling fans
- A square flange alternative to allow for direct machine mounting
