AT National Manufacturing Week 2006, SEW-Eurodrive will unveil the first release of its new PLC/motion controller series--the MOVI-PLC. Provided in an expanding range of form-factors and performance classes, MOVI-PLC permits entirely new levels of control system decentralisation along with seamless connectivity between the drive and PLC.
Specifically designed to support members of the unique SEW-Eurodrive frequency inverter solution set, the MOVI-PLC product family combines both conventional sequential PLC control and 'motion control' into a single compact platform.
As a result, MOVIPLC provides machine builders and system integrators with entirely new levels of development flexibility, efficiency and total system cost-savings.
"Historically, certain drive control applications required a separate PLC and frequency inverter, involving complex drive-to-PLC interfacing, plus additional programming and panel space allocation for the PLC," said Darren Klonowski, SEW-Eurodrive application engineer.
"The MOVI-PLC family revolutionises this situation, providing a control solution that reduces the burden and cost of external PLCs, streamlines total control system development, reduces wiring between PLC and drive, and saves on panel space.
"Australian machine builders and system integrators can now--for the first time--purchase a completely integrated and proven drive system from a single reliable source. The MOVI-PLC suite reflects the flexibility and scalability that is globally recognised as the hallmark of the entire SEW-Eurodrive offering," he added.
The MOVI-PLC controller will ultimately be provided in a variety of form-factors including; a controller card designed to plug into the expansion slot of SEW-Eurodrive drives; a stand-alone DIN rail mounted compact module for panel mounting; and future versions exhibiting even greater levels of field integration and distribution. The controller will also be provided in a selection of performance classes. These range from a basic class, through to an advanced class designed to provide high-performance motion and sequential control supporting up to 64 single axes movements, multi-axis interpolation, kinematics and so on.
All members of the MOVI-PLC family will support a wide range of external communications. These include Ethernet protocols, PROFIBUS interface, CANopen interfaces, RS 485 ports, and a selection of I/O. As a result, the MOVI-PLC can be incorporated into a broad array of system architectures: as a stand-alone controller supporting multiple connected drives, as a slave controller working in response to a supervisory PLC, or directly linked to a local SEW-Eurodrive DOP operator interface panel for local control and monitoring.
The MOVIPLC control code can be developed in any one of five supported languages: sequential function chart, instruction list, ladder logic, function block diagram and structured text--all compliant with the IEC-61131-3 and PLCopen standards. This is carried out via SEW-Eurodrive's powerful PLCEditor integrated into MOVITOOLS-MotionStudio software. PLC Editors' libraries come complete with a wide selection of standard functions and pre-written and tested motion control function blocks, specifically designed for immediate use with the SEW-Eurodrive frequency inverter family.
At Sydney's National Manufacturing Week, SEW-Eurodrive will exhibit the first release of the MOVI-PLC series--the DHP11B-MOVIPLC. Supporting simultaneous control of up to 12 axes, with 512 kB of program memory and eight configurable digital I/O, the controller will be exhibited in two form-factors--the stand-alone DIN-rail mounted compact module and the drive integrated control card format.
