THE latest addition to the portfolio of sophisticated drives solutions from SEW-Eurodrive is a new family of drive operator panels, known as the DOP series.
To be launched at Melbourne's Automate exhibition in October this year, the new DOP series provides the critical visual link between machine and operator.
Its five compact units offer combined operational control and status monitoring, and are ideal for meeting the demands of high-functionality motor control electronics and control networks.
According to Darren Klonowski, SEW-Eurodrive applications engineer, the DOP series human-machine interfaces (HMI) are an ideal complement to SEW-Eurodrive's range of Movidrive drive inverters and Movitrac 07 frequency inverters.
"These operator panels close the information loop," he said. "They allow quick feedback of the current status of the inverters or the machines they are controlling, and are often a convenient diagnostics interface."
The five DOP models range in size and basic functionality, from the space-efficient DOP11A-10 model, with monochrome text display and IP65-rated membrane keypad, to the premium DOP11A-50 model, which includes a 10.4-inch colour touch-screen display, two expansion slots and 1600kb Flash EEPROM.
A significant feature of each model, according to Klonowski, is the presence of dual communications ports; these allow the 'dual driver' function, where an operator panel can communicate directly with the drive electronics and a connected PLC -- or some other device -- simultaneously.
An optional Profibus DP interface allows the operator panel to serve as a slave in a Profibus network, as well as enabling communication to drive parameters via a serial interface.
A fast connection between an operator panel and a customer's PC network can be established by using an Ethernet option, at the same time enabling operation and control of the operator panel via Internet Explorer.
"Another feature is the integrated web server," Klonowski said. "This means that drive parameters can be accessed from anywhere in the world via the internet."
The DOP series HMI also handle recipe management of machine parameters, 'pass-through mode' (which allows access to drive inverters through the DOP panel from a connected PC), plus alarm handling and trending information.
In keeping with its company policy for free support software, SEW-Eurodrive supplies the easy-to-use HMI-Builder operating software, used to configure the DOP series, free of charge.
The complete range of DOP series HMI will be officially unveiled at the SEW-Eurodrive Automate 2004 stand: stand No. A13, October 5-7, 2004, Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Melbourne.
