Consulting engineer, SEMF Holdings , is now well placed to provide manufacturers and the industrial processing sector with a fully integrated site solution with the appointment of machine design specialist, Walter Martin, to the company’s industrial engineering division.

Walter Martin was formerly a machine designer for Fisher & Paykel Production Machinery in Auckland where he worked as part of an extensive engineering team providing design and construct solutions to global white goods manufacturers.

Walter Martin later moved to Melbourne to work for the Australian and New Zealand distributers of Fanuc Articulated Robots and Mazak Machine Tools as a design engineer, later moving into operations management.

Several years ago Walter Martin established a design and project management consultancy, specialising in production line development and construction for original equipment manufacturers and manufacturers.

His appointment to SEMF Holdings means that the consulting engineer not only provides complete engineering design packages for all types of industrial processes, but also offers special-purpose machinery design in-house – a service typically outsourced by consultancies.

SEMF Holdings Managing Director, Allan Waitzer: “Providing a fully integrated solution places us among just a handful of companies which can provide the total engineering and design solution, invaluable to manufacturers developing green field sites and also to those involved in plant upgrades.”

SEMF Holdings’ new machine design service includes the provision of:

  • Continuous improvement studies of existing manufacturing processes
  • Design feasibility studies for plant upgrades
  • Articulated robot cell design of processes such as materials handling, machine tending and fettling
  • Special purpose machinery design (manual, semi-automatic, fully automatic)
  • An EPCM service which enables SEMF Holdings to outsource equipment construction on behalf of clients

According to Walter Martin, a longstanding relationship with quality machine builders enables SEMF Holdings to procure systems at the best price for clients. “In addition we also provide our clients with total support throughout the life of a project, including operator and maintenance training to ensure projects run smoothly.”
