SBH Solutions Australia supplied heater jackets to warm grease in an IBC and on the mine service truck to resolve machinery greasing difficulties at Coalpac’s Cullen Valley mine in the Blue Mountains near Lithgow.
The heater jackets were supplied in collaboration with Coalpac contractor, Absolute Earthmoving Repairs.
The Maintenance Supervisor at Cullen Valley Mine sought a solution for freezing pumps and viscous grease at the mine site.
High viscosity grease needed to be warmed in an IBC and then pumped at night onto a service truck for use during the day to service and maintain equipment in the mine.
The pumping from the IBC could only be performed at night when the truck was available.
Cullen Valley Mine trialled the 1300w IBC1 heater with insulated lid from SBH’s LMK Thermosafe product line on its IBC greasetainer in addition to a 1000w HHD drum heater jacket around its custom sized service truck tank.
According to Nigel Smalls of SBH Solutions, the service truck grease tank was slightly bigger in circumference than a standard drum but the heater straps were able to bridge the gap.
Following the successful trials, a custom heater for the tank was ordered along with a standard heavy duty cover for the IBC and a custom ‘oversock’ for the tank to cover the top mounted grease pump as the heater jackets are not designed for continual exposure to extreme elements.
