Rotork’s CVA electronic control valve actuators were recently installed on 11 oil water separators provided for a refinery in Antwerp. The actuators were installed as a critical failsafe guard against accidental oil spillages or contamination as a result of power or control signal to the unit is disrupted.
The dewatering units have been manufactured by Facet and use a passive gravity-flow technique for separating oil and solids from waste water in storage tanks. If power or signal is lost, the CVA electric control valve actuators will instantaneously close valves on the water outlet and oil return lines.
CVA valve actuators are explosion proof and they feature a built in data logger that provides diagnostics to minimise the risk of unscheduled process interruption.
The CVA actuator design utilises integral super-capacitors to enabling failsafe operation. The programming of the failsafe operation is a standard part of the CVA’s non-intrusive commissioning routine.
The overall design was required to take into account space considerations because each dewatering unit is packaged in a compact weatherproof housing. External manifold exists for onsite pipework connections.
