Rockwell Automation has introduced an improved and expanded line of 18mm cylindrical photoelectric sensors—the Allen-Bradley 42CA Series C. Featuring rapid 0.5 and 1ms response times, these new-generation presence sensors are ideal for general purpose and high-speed applications in the packaging, assembly and materials handling industries. Five sensing modes are available in the Series C range—enhanced models in transmitted beam, polarised retroflective, background suppression, standard diffuse and retroflective modes.

Two new long-range models have also been added to the 42CA family; these are available in standard diffuse and retroflective modes. These two new models boast long sensing ranges of 1000mm and 7200mm for the standard diffuse and retroflective modes respectively. With a quick response time of 0.5ms, these sensors are the perfect solution for high-throughput production lines.

The 42CA Series C cylindrical sensors also incorporate improved visual diagnostics. Two LED indicators provide a straightforward visual, to rapidly identify the status of power, output, unstable operation and short-circuit protection. This provides easy trouble-shooting.

The design of the Series C sensors also utilises a flat lens configuration, which acts to minimise particulate and dust accumulation, and to simplify lens cleaning if required. With enclosures rated to IP67, the 42CA Series C 18mm cylindrical photoelectric sensors are self-contained sensors that incorporate simple installation with the durability demanded by Australian industry.
