Rockwell Automation introduces Compact Machine Solutions suite
Rockwell Automation has introduced Compact Machine Solutions suite, an automation package that provides flexible, scaleable and fully integrated process control and automation for OEMs and machine-builders.
Comprising key elements of Rockwell Automation’s integrated architecture, the Compact Machine Solutions suite helps reduce development and commissioning time, while improving machine performance and productivity.
Compact Machine Solutions brings together the Allen-Bradley CompactLogix controller family, PanelView Plus electronic operator terminals, POINT I/O modules and PowerFlex AC drives.
According to Rockwell Automation’s national sales program development manager, Glen Jacob, these components integrate via an EtherNet/IP communications network to form the ideal machine automation system.
ArmorPOINT I/O and PowerFlex AC drives are available in IP66-rated, machine-mountable versions, allowing further flexibility in machine design and a reduction in panel space requirements.
“OEMs can easily integrate the Compact Machine Solutions into existing manufacturing environments,” Jacob said.
“It leverages the advantages of Integrated Architecture--a powerful multidiscipline control platform with premier integration and communication capabilities--in a compact and modular package.”
All modular Compact Machine Solutions components have been designed with smart and simple configuration and start-up in mind to reduce machine build time.
“The suite uses RSLogix 5000 programming software,” said Jacob. “This enables OEMs to save time by reusing code or moving it from one Logix application to another, with no additional program development or training.”
In addition, built-in diagnostics and full networking capability enables easier machine commissioning, and faster trouble-shooting to reduce unscheduled downtime.
“Compact Machine Solutions support full plant floor to enterprise connectivity,” said Jacob.
“OEMs can re-use engineering designs and easily gain access to plant and production data for better decision-making. The suite also supports remote diagnostics of all system components, which can be achieved via LAN, internet or modem access.”
The Compact Machine Solutions suite is supported by complementary online productivity tools, Jacob added.
These range from guidance for new users including video demonstrations--to detailed CAD drawings, wiring diagrams for standard applications, and Integrated Architecture information.
“The Compact Machine Solutions set is a scaleable, multi-discipline platform that allows OEMs to quickly design, manufacture and deliver ‘whole line’ solutions to the manufacturing industry at large,” he said.
