ROCKWELL Automation’s Allen-Bradley SMC-Flex soft starter has been extended into lower current ratings - as low as one ampere. The product’s features include electronic overload, integral bypass, modular communications, soft starting for both star-delta and standard direct-on-line (DOL) squirrel-cage induction motors, plus advanced protection and diagnostics, in a compact, easily maintainable package.

Suitable for supply voltages from 200V to 600V, the Allen-Bradley SMC-Flex can now support currents ranging from 1A to 480A for DOL motor starter configurations, and from 1A to 831A for star-delta motor starter configurations. This takes soft starting to a new dimension by reducing product size and increasing cost-efficiency.

Providing the soft start/soft stop functionality required for a wide range of applications, the Allen-Bradley SMC-Flex incorporates features and technology previously unavailable in a soft starter.

To increase system performance and minimise downtime, the SMC-Flex provides advanced motor and controller diagnostics. It is a soft starter that comprises built-in motor protection in multiple overload classes and is able to monitor and display three-phase voltage, current, power and power factor.

A range of communication options are also available to allow starter configuration and monitoring over popular networks including Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Remote I/O, and Profibus.
