Wether it is an underground cable installation, transportable pipe rollers, wheels for industry or an offshore gas pipeline requiring a 10,000kg pipe rolling solution - such as the 34" offshore gas pipeline for the Gorgon project in Western Australia - Richmond Wheels and Castors are at the forefront of design, manufacture and supply.
After initially supplying over 100 complete pipe rollers, pipe supports and pillow blocks in late 2010 for the Gorgon Project, Richmond Wheels and Castors were given the task of designing and manufacturing an additional 20 pipe rollers to accommodate the load and pipe diameter of the 34" pipe section; a much bigger task when compared to the initial 10" pipeline rollers they manufactured.
Whilst the pipe roller needed to carry an enormous load, the three layer polypropylene coating used on this pipeline needed to be protected, which meant that a low contact pressure between pipe and rollers needed to be the key design feature. Richmond Wheels and Castors selected a soft grade of polyurethane to reduce the contact pressure.
Further demonstrating Richmond Wheels and Castors design know how when it comes to pipe rollers, they designed and manufactured two tools out of specially moulded 94A polyurethane to keep the cost of the project down for the customer.
The result was 20 pipe rollers each weighing 400kg each with 100kg of polyurethane ensuring protection for the pipeline coating and a decreased rolling pressure.
