Simplot Australia is one of Australia’s top ten FMCG companies, who operate in over 53 categories and is market leader in 8 of their top 18 categories. Simplot manufactures and sells a range of frozen and canned products, with distribution through an extensive network of major supermarkets, convenience stores and food service outlets such as restaurants, cafes and caterers.
 
Over the numerous years of operation, and given the size of the Simplot operation, turnover of employees is inevitable. Simplot has a business requirement to ensure both existing, and also new employees have been trained in the correct principles of Category Management, to ensure the continued level of service provided to their retail customers.
 
Simplot already has a successful operating process around Category Management, but required a more formal approach that follows industry standards and best practice. This programme will be used to both educate, but also empower employees with the tools and knowledge to intercept various business issues before they develop into larger problems.

Robert Durrant Managing Director of Retail E-vironment explains how their Category Management Essentials (CME) programme provided a perfect framework for Simplot’s leadership programme.
 
Elyse Hockley, Trade Marketing Manager for Simplot explained that having the CME programme from Retail E-vironment saved the business at least 12 months worth of research and documentation. CME encompassed the right information and a unique method of training - Learn as you Do.
 
CME was customised to include specific Simplot related systems and processes to create a very powerful, but simple to use programme. Branded the Simplot Category Leadership Programme, staff members are required to complete the programme, and become both industry and Simplot business accredited.
 
By Mid Year, the goal for Simplot will be to have all employees accredited using the Category Leadership Programme. Key advantages are,
