QSlide and QWheel capacitive sensors, now supplied by Reid Industrial Graphic Products , are reliable and cost saving alternatives to existing capacitive sensor technology.
Suitable for use wherever a mechanical control would otherwise be used, these capacitive sensors utilise spread-spectrum modulation to deliver good EMC performance and low RF emissions.
They also offer drift compensation to account for slow changes due to aging or changing environmental conditions and automatic recalibration for life.
Both varieties can sense through panels up to 3mm thick, even through gloved hands.
QSlide capacitive sensors feature a simple linear resistive element that can be comprised of:
- discrete resistors connected in series
- a resistive thick-film layer; or
- an optically-clear indium tin oxide (ITO) film for use over liquid crystal displays.
QWheel capacitive sensors consist of a simple resistive ring element that can be placed behind any dielectric panel.
Both QSlide and QWheel based products process signals to 7-bits of absolute position, with output via a standard SPI or I2C serial interface.
