NMW 2008 to be held at Sydney Exhibition & Convention Centre in May

Supplier News

National Manufacturing Week 2008 – now Australia’s only annual integrated manufacturing exhibition – will be back at the Sydney Exhibition & Convention Centre, Darling Harbour in a significantly expanded form in May next year.

Owned and organised by Reed Exhibitions, NMW 2008 to be held from Tuesday May 27 to Friday May 30 covers all major aspects of the manufacturing sector in a fully integrated event, incorporating an exhibition, seminars and information sessions and related industry association forums and meetings.

In July this year, it was announced that Manufacturing Technology In Focus (MTIF) – and its associated events Automate, Austronics and Electrix would be incorporated within NMW from 2008, providing Australia’s manufacturing industry with a single one-stop show servicing the entire sector.

“With the acquisition of MTiF, National Manufacturing Week’s list of industry-specific pavilions – in effect ‘shows-within-a-show – has been expanded to include the electronics and electrical sectors for the first time.”

“As a result, NMW is now the manufacturing sector’s only manufacturing technology exhibition covering the full gamut of sectors relating to the manufacturing industry,” Gorton said.

New pavilions at NMW 2008 will include:

  • Electrix
  • Austronics
  • Logistics, Materials Handling & Distribution (LMHD)

A brief summary of these and related pavilions follows:

Electrix: the definitive showcase for the electrical industry, this pavilion is endorsed by the Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (AEEMA), and will feature a comprehensive range of high-tech products, services and technologies for the electrical sector.

Austronics: Australia's premier electronics industry exhibition, this pavilion is endorsed and supported by peak industry associations including the Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (AEEMA) and the Surface Mount and Circuit Board Association (SMCBA), and will showcase the very latest electronics solutions for the manufacturing sector.

Automation & Robotics: Complementing Electrix and Austronic, this pavilion has been the fast-growing sector of NMW since being launched in 2006, with most of the major companies exhibiting again in 2008.

“With manufacturers looking to the latest technology for efficiency and quality – and to cope with skills shortages – many are increasingly considering automation and robotics to meet their requirements, and the demands of their customers,” said Gorton.

“From simple controls to full ‘lights-out’ systems, some of the biggest productivity improvements in a manufacturing facility can be achieved using the leading-edge technology on display at NMW,” he said.

Logistics, Materials Handling & Distribution (LMHD): This new fully integrated materials handling section will showcase all the important aspects of logistics, materials handling and distribution, from raw materials to production, through to warehousing.

It will include a comprehensive range of products, services and technologies from Australia and overseas, aimed at making it easy for Australia's manufacturing industry decision-makers to source the latest logistics, materials handling and distribution solutions for their business.

These pavilions will line up alongside the other established exhibitions at NMW, including:

  • AIEE (general manufacturing)
  • Air Technology
  • Austech (machine tools – organised by AMTIL)
  • CIMTech (computer technology)
  • Health and safety
  • ICEX (process, control and instrumentation)
  • WeldTech (welding, joining and heat-treatment equipment)
